You could write a book on the best restaurants in Colombia or even Medellin, there are soooo many. The quality of Colombian restaurants has dramatically improved over the 18 years I have been living here.

Colombia has a growing middle class and a fairly large wealthy upper class and major businesses that now demand and are willing to pay for high class restaurants.

The growth of international tourism has also opened opportunities with a much larger selection of cuisines especially sushi, vegan, 8 to 14 course meals, wine tasting and a wave of fast food franchises too.

Rappi has changed everything. This home delivery company does a great job and allows you to order ¨take out¨ from restaurants all over the city often at discounted prices. By signing up and paying their monthly fee, you avoid the delivery fee.

For ¨everyday¨ eating out, there are zillions of restaurants, bakeries, mom and pop typical and street food options all over Colombia. If you crave ¨American¨ style, there are lots of options for burgers, pizza, fried chicken, and other international franchises.

The most popular are El Corral (burgers), Frisby and KFC (fried chicken), Pizza (Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominos) and Subway.

Crepes & Waffles is a large very successful chain with an extensive menu (not just crepes & waffles) including great creative ice cream desserts at very affordable prices. These restaurants are always very busy which tells you all you need to know.

In Medellin, Chef Burger is No 1 in my book for burgers but La Pampa steakhouse and Barbacoa Burgers & Beer are also very good. There are lots of local pizza places.

The Food  Courts in the big shopping centers are really amazing with tremendous variety usually at very reasonable prices. 

Our ¨Fancy¨ high end restaurants are expensive and don't fit into the budget of most Colombians, foreign tourists find the prices still well below comparable restaurants in the US.  So you may be able to treat yourself  to the highest rated restaurants while here in Colombia and consider it a bargain.
